Deadly Weekend: 2 Men Killed In Separate Crashes On Capital Region Roadways

Two men are dead following separate crashes involving pedestrians in the region.

The first incident happened in Albany County just before midnight Saturday, Nov. 11, in Colonie on Central Avenue.

A man walked into the roadway near Fuller Road and was struck by a Ford F-150 truck that was driving westbound, according to Colonie Police.

The victim, identified as 49-year-old David Herskind, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 48-year-old Albany man who was driving the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Emergency crews in Colonie were called again shortly before midnight Sunday, Nov. 12, for another crash involving a pedestrian on Troy-Schenectady Road.

According to police, a woman was driving eastbound near British American Boulevard when a man stepped off the curb directly in front of her vehicle.

The man was thrown into the windshield and landed on the pavement. He was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with severe injuries and later died.

Police identified the victim as 62-year-old Timothy Smith.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

Neither excessive speed nor driver impairment were factors in either crash, according to police.
